Know Foreign Exchange Rate in Nepal

Foreign Exchange rate in Nepal is reviewed and fixed every day by Nepal Rastra Bank. The only authorized institute. However, to ease the process, Nepal Rastra Bank provides authorization certificate to banks, trekking agencies, money exchangers, tour operators to exchange foreign currency. Exchange transactions otherwise, or beyond authorized exchangers is illegal in Nepal. Also, trekker and traveler are advised to pay high attention in the foreign exchange rate in Nepal to avoid spam and stay out of unnecessary troubles. Even though counterfeits notes is not a major problem, but precaution is advised. Taking receipts of currency exchange is very necessary. Major tourist and trekking areas accept foreign currency, but not everywhere. Example, for buying a bottle of water in local stores, paying food bill in a restaurant you need Nepalese currency.

While leaving Nepal, you can change Nepalese currency to any other currency you want. Or, you may keep some banknotes as sovereign.

Acceptable Foreign Currency

US Dollars and Euros are the most acceptable foreign currency in Nepal. Other major currencies accepted are, UK Pound Sterling, Swiss Franc, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Singapore Dollars, Japanese Yen, Chinese Yuan, Saudi Arabian Riyal, Qatari Riyal, Thai Bhat, UAE Dirham, Malaysian Ringgit, South Korean Won, Swedish Kroner, Danish Kroner, Hong Kong Dollar, Kuwaiti Dinar, Bahrain Dinar.

Major Nepalese Currency Denomination

The currency of Nepal is called Nepalese/Nepali Rupees (NRs). Nepalese currencies include both Nepalese and English inscriptions. The reverse side of note clearly has both the number and words written in English. So, trekker and traveler can easily distinguish the value of different notes.
